Costumes Wychwood Players

Costumes

The actors may sound good but they have to look good as well. We source costumes in four different ways.

They actors may have clothes of their own which are suitable for the production.

The Players have a large costume store of their own of items that have been donated or made over the years.

For specialist costumes we go to the Oxford Drama Wardrobe at Steventon near Wantage. This is in an old wartime Nissen hut on an old airfield and is an Aladdin’s Cave of period costume and uniforms. The wardrobe is run by some very efficient ladies who have a lot of specialist knowledge and can source all the accessories required for a specific look.

Finally we often make our own costumes. There are some of us who are very capable with our sewing machines and like nothing better than a costume challenge. Pantomime is where this comes into its own. We buy fairly cheap fabric and then turn it into something wonderful. Yet again it is not just acting talents that get used in the Wychwood Players.
